CLOGSAG members return to post on May 16, 2022

Members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) have been directed to resume to work by Monday, May 16, 2022. The directive follows a decision by the National Executive Council (NEC) of CLOGSAG to call off the nearly a month nationwide strike action by its members at its meeting held on Thursday, May 12, 2022.

“At its meeting held on Thursday, 12th May, 2022, the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) decided to call off the nationwide strike action by its members”.

Addressing the media at a press conference in Accra, the Executive Secretary, CLOGSAG, Mr. Isaac Bampoe Addo, noted that the decision was based on the fact that on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, the Ministry of Finance complied with the directive by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to direct the Controller and Account General’s Department (CAGD) to effect payment of the agreed allowance.

“The rationale to step down the industrial action was based on the fact that the demand for the Ministry of Finance to direct the Controller and Accountant General to effect payment of the agreed allowance has been met on 11th May, 2022”, he noted.

In the same vein, he commended the support of all members and called on them to be on standby and remain resolute to the call of the leadership. “We take this opportunity to appreciate the resilience and the commitment of all our members during this period. It portrays the sordid conditions under which our members have endured all these years”, he said.

Stressing that “the neutrality allowance was only a minute part of a broader conditions of service the Association was demanding from government. Thus, the conditions of service being enjoyed now have not been achieved on a silver platter”.

CLOGSAG has been on strike since Thursday, April 21, 2022, demanding, among other things, the immediate payment of the neutrality allowance for its members.
