Head of Service confers Honarary Award on National Chief Imam

The Head of Civil Service, Nana Kwasi Agyekum-Dwamena, has conferred Honorary Award on the National Chief Imam of the Republic of Ghana, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, for his enormous contribution to Peace and National Security.

The plaque which read, “Honorary Award; Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, National Chief Imam, Ghana; for your contribution to Peace and National Security”, was presented when a delegation led by the Head of Service, paid courtesy on the National Chief Imam at his residence in Accra, as part of activities to mark the 4th Edition of the annual Civil Service Week and Awards Ceremony.

In a speech delivered during the courtesy visit, Nana Agyekum-Dwamena noted that the aim of the institutionalization of the celebration of Civil Service Week is to recognize the collective achievements in the attainment of national goals and collaborate with other public service institutions to improve delivery and accessibility of public services.

Also, to deepen the continuous relationship with clients and stakeholders, as well as honour Officers for their impressive work towards the delivery of sector goals and objectives.

Touching on the theme for this year’s celebration, “Digitalization in the Civil Service of Ghana: An agenda for improved productivity and service delivery”, Head of Service reiterated the need for the celebration; to highlight the significant role digitalization has played in the delivery of quality services.

According to him, the visit has become necessary to seek blessings for the Ghana Civil Service as well as the staff of its institutions; and to establish a partnership between the Religious Organization and the Ghana Civil Service, to enhance service delivery for the benefit of Ghana.

“Our visit today, is to humbly seek your blessings for the Ghana Civil Service, blessings for the staff of its institutions; and to establish a partnership between the Religious Organization and the Ghana Civil Service, for the enhancement of services for the benefit of our country, Ghana”, he expressed.

He further noted that, “the Civil Service of Ghana today has become one of the most attractive public service organizations; providing human resources and leadership among its peers in the sub-Saharan region, where other Services undertake institutional study tours to learn best practices in a changing world of public administration”.

Head of Service further enlightened Sheikh Dr. O.N. Sharubutu on major transformation of the Ghana Civil Service, in the areas of digitalization of Staff Performance appraisal systems, E-recruitment, Virtual promotions system, use of digital platforms and E-record management.

On the other hand, Head of Service noted that areas of consideration of improvement include: the digitization of services by the Registrar Generals’ Department, the Births and Deaths Registry, Passport Office, among others.

Concluding, Nana Agyekum-Dwamena, commended, “Sheikh, your continuous prayers, interfaith and peaceful co-existence philosophy and love for all, has been the reason for where Ghana finds itself today in the global peace index. It is our prayer also that Allah continues to grant you longer life and good health. We also pray that Allah allows Ghana to continue to benefit from your endless initiatives, Amen”.

For his part, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, offered blessings unto the Ghana Civil Service, staff of its institutions and pledged the commitment of his outfit to establish partnership with the Ghana Civil Service, geared towards national development. Acknowledging the delegation led by the Head of Service for the honor done him, he wished the Service a fruitful celebration and called on all Civil Servants to be inclusive in all activities.

In attendance were; the spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu, Chief Directors and Directors of the Civil Service, Members of the Advisory Board of the Office of the National Chief Imam (ONCI), Members of the household of the National Chief Imam (NCI) and Muslim Civil Service Staff.

From Monday, July 25, to Thursday, July 28, 2022, activities such as Policy Fair, Tourism Day and Health Screening will run concurrently each day.

On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, the President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) will present a Public Lecture on the year’s theme with focus on the private sector perspective of the theme.

The 2022 celebration has seen the introduction of an inter-ministerial football tournament. Thus, the final matches will be played on July 27 and 28.
